Select the format that matches your question, stimulus and desired result.

Use closed questions when the options themselves are meaningful. Use open questions to let participants introduce reasons you have not supplied. Choose interviews when probing those reasons matters, and focus groups when interaction is part of the question.

For preference tests, keep alternatives comparable. If one version changes the offer, price and wording together, a preference does not tell you which change caused it.

Before every run

Check audience, respondent count, material and estimate. A survey or guide must contain actual questions, not only a goal sentence. A creative or page test needs its stimulus attached. Costs differ by method and question type; see Pricing & credits.
