Connect Qualtrics

Import your Qualtrics survey responses so an audience answers from your own data. A brand admin creates a read-only OAuth client once, which takes a few minutes and keeps the access inside your brand.

Qualtrics holds the answers your customers already gave you. Importing them lets an audience answer from your own survey data rather than a guess.

Qualtrics scopes an OAuth client to a single brand, so there is no shared iMario app to authorize: an admin in your own Qualtrics creates one, and iMario uses it to read only the surveys you pick. It is free, it takes a few minutes, and the access stays inside your brand.

What your admin does, once

  1. In Qualtrics, open the account menu → Account SettingsOAuth Client Manager.

  2. Click Create Client and give it a name your colleagues will recognise, such as "iMario".

  3. For Grant Type, choose Authorization Code.

  4. For the Redirect URI, paste this exactly:

    https://api.imario.ai/api/connections/callback
  5. For Scopes, tick these two and nothing else:

    ScopeWhat it lets iMario read
read:surveysYour surveys and their questions, so an answer keeps the question it belongs to
read:survey_responsesThe responses themselves, which become the audience's answers
  6. Save, then copy the Client ID and Client Secret. The secret is shown once.

Both are read-only scopes. Nothing in this client can change or delete anything in Qualtrics.

Find your datacenter ID

iMario also asks for your datacenter ID, because every Qualtrics brand lives on its own host. It is the first part of your Qualtrics web address: in iad1.qualtrics.com the datacenter ID is iad1. You can also read it in Account Settings → Qualtrics IDs.

Connect in iMario

  1. In Create audience, click Connect a data system and choose Qualtrics.
  2. Paste the Client ID and Client Secret from step 6, and your datacenter ID.
  3. Click Connect to Qualtrics and approve on Qualtrics' own page.
  4. Your surveys are listed, most recently changed first. Qualtrics does not report a response count on the list, so iMario says so rather than showing a number it would contradict — the real count arrives with the import. Tick the ones to use.
  5. Click Import.

What iMario reads

Only the surveys you tick, and only their questions and answers. For each response it keeps the answers and, when the survey was sent to an email list, the respondent's address — that address is a join key, never an answer, and it is what lets a response reach the right person in your audience. Anonymous-link responses have no address and still count toward the audience's answers.

Timestamps, IP addresses and Qualtrics' own internal fields are dropped on the way in.

Troubleshooting

The Qualtrics page says the redirect URI does not match. It is compared character for character. Check for a trailing slash, and that it is the address above rather than a staging one.

"Insufficient scope" after connecting. The client was created without one of the two scopes, or with a different grant type. Fix it in OAuth Client Manager and connect again — a token carries the scopes that existed when you authorized.

A survey lists with no responses. A survey that has not been answered yet has nothing to import.

The import sits for a moment before anything appears. Qualtrics has no endpoint that hands back responses: it builds an export file and iMario waits for it. A large survey can take a minute.
