Quickstart: Your First Task

Run your first synthetic research task end-to-end in under 30 minutes.

This guide walks you through creating your first synthetic individual, building a task, and generating a research report — end to end.

What you'll do:

  1. Create a synthetic individual
  2. Build a task on the Task Canvas
  3. Run it and read your report

Step 1: Create a Synthetic Individual

Go to the Persona tab in the left navigation.

Choose a mode:

  • Audience Mode — describe a group in plain language and generate multiple individuals at once
  • Solo Mode — create a single individual from a LinkedIn profile or personality test

For your first task, try Audience Mode. Enter a brief description, for example:

"Three product managers at mid-sized SaaS companies who are evaluating new analytics tools."

Click Generate. iMario will create a set of synthetic individuals based on your description.

Step 2: Build Your Task

Click + next to Create New Task in the left navigation, then select New Task.

You'll land on the Task Canvas. Click + in the top-right corner to add nodes. Build a flow with three nodes:

1. Content Node — Discussion Guide

Select Discussion Guide and write a few questions you want to explore. For example:

"What's your biggest frustration with your current analytics tool? What would make you switch?"

Use AI Expert if you want help structuring your questions — describe your research goal and it will suggest a full guide.

2. Audience Node

Click the Audience Node and select Cohort as the Source Type. Choose the individuals you just created from your saved groups.

3. Output Node — Report

Select Report as your Output Node. Keep the default settings for your first task:

  • Report Length: Standard
  • Report Tone: Consulting
  • Insight Depth: Full Chain
  • Evidence Style: Representative

Drag to connect Content to Audience, and Audience to Report.

Step 3: Validate and Run

Before launching, check the Checklist in the top-right corner. It will flag any issues — missing content, no audience selected — that need to be resolved before running.

When everything is clear, click Run.

iMario will begin simulating responses in real time. You can watch each individual respond as the task runs.

Step 4: Read Your Report

Once complete, your report will appear automatically. It has three layers:

  • Report — key findings and overall patterns
  • Analysis — per-question breakdowns with AI Summaries, sentiment signals, and Dimensional Analysis
  • Responses — raw answers from each individual

Start with the Report for the big picture, then go to Analysis to understand the patterns behind each finding, and Responses to read the reasoning in each individual's own words.
