# Understand Memory

Memory can carry context into later responses. Its availability and persistence depend on the individual workflow and configured services.

## Inspect available memory

Open **Memory** where available. The view can show a graph, items, strength indicators and source context. Follow provenance to learn whether an item came from a conversation, study or other input.

**Vivid**, **Clear** and **Fading** describe memory state, not the truth of a statement. A contradiction may reflect conflicting sources or an inferred memory needing inspection.

## Implications for research

Later conversations may use earlier context. Ten chats with the same individual are not ten independent people. Do not assume repeated questioning leaves that person unchanged.

Keep original run answers as that run's evidence. A later clarification is useful, but should be labelled as follow-up rather than substituted into an earlier count.

## Missing or unexpected memory

Check the individual and workspace. An empty graph does not prove a chat is stateless: current conversation context and persistent memory differ. A saved conversation also does not guarantee every detail entered persistent memory.
