# Connect Knowledge to an Individual

> Supply relevant background and check how it supports later responses.

Connect a Knowledge Base when an individual needs background beyond its profile, such as product documentation or past company decisions.

## Connect the material

1. Open **Capabilities**.
2. Under **Knowledge**, choose **Connect** or **Manage**.
3. Select the base and files to use.
4. Review any identity conflict and save.

Use relevant material. Giving a first-time customer internal strategy changes the perspective being modelled; it is not automatically better grounding.

## How knowledge is used

Direct chat can retrieve material and expose source citations. Inspect whether each citation supports the statement.

Generation-time context is different: material used to build a profile may already have influenced it. Updating a file does not retroactively rewrite the profile or earlier answers.

Do not assume identical live retrieval and citations in every research runner. For a study that depends on specific material, attach it explicitly to the task and check what the run used.

## Verify and update

Ask a focused question in [Chat](https://imario.ai/docs/synthetic-individuals/manage/chat) and inspect its sources. Adjust irrelevant or outdated files through [Knowledge Base management](https://imario.ai/docs/knowledge-base/manage).
