# Connect Gong

> Import the transcripts of the recorded calls you pick from Gong, so an audience answers in the words your customers used on a real call. Every permission iMario asks Gong for, what each one is used for, and how to remove the app and its data.

Your recorded calls hold something no survey gets: the objection as it was actually raised, the words a buyer reached for, the pause before the price was answered. iMario reads the transcripts of the Gong calls you pick and uses them as evidence for an audience, so that audience argues the way those buyers argued.

The app is read-only. It never joins, records or schedules a call, never edits a call in Gong, and writes nothing back.

## Before you start

- **A Gong account with recorded calls.** Gong transcribes recorded calls in its supported languages, so a call that was recorded normally has a transcript to read. A call Gong holds without a transcript cannot be imported, because iMario reads text and does not transcribe audio.
- **A Gong technical administrator.** Adding an integration is an admin action in Gong. If you are not one, the authorization screen will not complete.
- **An iMario workspace** to put the connection in.

## Add the app

1. Sign in to iMario and open **Create audience**.
2. Click **Connect a data system** and choose **Gong**.
3. Read the permission list. Each line says what iMario will read and why.
4. Click **Connect to Gong**. Gong's own authorization screen opens.
5. Sign in as a Gong technical administrator and approve.
6. You are returned to iMario, and your calls are listed by title and date. Calls with a transcript are marked and pre-ticked.
7. Tick the calls to use and click **Import**.

Up to 200 calls are listed at a time. The list is there to choose from, not to hold your whole archive.

If a step does not go as described, see [Troubleshooting](https://imario.ai/docs/synthetic-individuals/create/connect-gong#troubleshooting).

## What iMario asks Gong for

Three permissions, each used by a specific part of the import:

| Permission | What it reads | What it is for |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `api:calls:read:basic` | The list of your calls: title and date | Builds the list you choose from. Without it there is nothing to pick. |
| `api:calls:read:transcript` | The transcript of a call you ticked | These are the words the audience uses. This is the whole point of the connection. |
| `api:calls:read:extensive` | Who was on that call: name, email address when Gong holds one, and which side of the call they were on | Attaches a customer's words to that customer in your audience, and keeps your own team's turns from being read as a customer's answers. It also supplies the call title, so your imported material is named the way it is named in Gong. |

iMario asks for nothing else. It does not read your emails, your deals, your CRM fields, your scorecards, your trackers, your team's stats, or any call you did not tick.

## Use it

### Import the transcripts of the calls you choose

*Use case: you ran twenty discovery calls last quarter and want the audience to raise what those buyers raised.*

Prerequisites: the calls are in Gong with a transcript.

Pick them from the list and click **Import**. Each transcript is read as passages and lands in the audience's source list, exactly as an uploaded file would. Every call is pulled once; importing the same call twice does not store it twice.

### Attach a call to the customer it was with

*Use case: you want one account's objections to come out of that account's own individual in the audience, rather than out of the audience as a whole.*

Prerequisites: Gong holds an email address for that participant.

Nothing to configure. Gong says who was on a call and which side they were on, so a customer's turns and your rep's turns are never mixed up. When an address is there, the customer's words go onto that person, and questions put to them afterwards are answered from what they really said. When it is not, the call still shapes how the whole audience speaks; it is simply not put on any individual.

### Bring in later calls

*Use case: you keep selling after the audience was built.*

Connecting imports what you ticked, once. iMario does not poll your Gong afterwards. To add calls recorded since, connect Gong again and tick the new ones.

## Remove the app

Either side works, and they do different things, so do both.

**Remove it in iMario:** open the audience, find the connected source, and remove it. This is the step that deletes data. Removing the last file the connection produced disconnects it, and iMario then deletes the imported transcripts, the stored credential, and the rows those transcripts put onto individuals in your audiences. If any step fails, nothing is disconnected and you are told, rather than being told your data is gone when it is not.

**Remove it in Gong:** **Admin center** → **Settings** → **Ecosystem** → **API**, find **iMario** among the installed integrations, and remove it. This revokes the credential, so iMario can never read your Gong again.

Gong does not notify iMario when you remove the app on its side. Removing it there stops any further reading, but what was already imported stays until you disconnect in iMario. If you would rather we deleted it for you, write to [support@imario.ai](mailto:support@imario.ai).

**What removal does not undo.** An audience that was built keeps existing, and reports you already ran keep their text: they are your work, and a report is a record of what was said when it ran. The Gong words come off the individuals, so the audience stops answering from them. If you want the audience or the reports gone as well, delete them in iMario, or write to [support@imario.ai](mailto:support@imario.ai) and we will remove them for you.

## Troubleshooting

**No calls are listed.** The connected Gong account has no recorded calls that iMario can read. Check in Gong that calls are being recorded and that the administrator who authorized can see them.

**A call is listed as "no transcript".** Gong holds the recording but no text for it. iMario reads text and does not transcribe audio, so that call cannot be imported.

**A call imported, but nobody in the audience is speaking with it.** Gong held no email address for the participants, so the words were kept as unattributed evidence. The call still shapes the audience's voice; it is simply not on a person.

**Authorization fails or returns an error.** Try again from **Create audience**; the authorization link is single-use. If it keeps failing, check that you signed in as a Gong technical administrator, since a standard user cannot add an integration.

**Still stuck.** Write to [support@imario.ai](mailto:support@imario.ai) with the Gong account and roughly when you tried.
