# Test a Creative

> Show an image to an audience and explore what it communicates.

Use a creative test to get reactions to one image, such as a package, an ad, a landing page or an interface screenshot. Ask respondents a specific question rather than for a general design review.

## Prepare the image

1. In the sidebar, click **New Task**.
2. Click **Add content** (**+**) in the composer, then click **Creative test**. The composer shows the creative test goal, with **Attach an image** below it.
3. Click **Upload image** and choose the image, or pick one you uploaded before. Wait until the upload finishes and check that the attached image is the version you want to test.
4. Click **Select target audience** and choose the audience. The chip shows the audience, the respondent count and a credit estimate.
5. In the goal, replace the placeholder with your audience and your question.
6. To change the number of respondents, click the respondent count and type the new number.
7. Check the respondent count and the credit estimate, then click **Run**.

For example:

> What do you think this product promises, and which part of the packaging makes you think that?

Use an image that is readable at the level of detail your question needs. A screenshot shows one captured state, not every screen or interaction in a product. To test a live page, use [URL feedback](https://imario.ai/docs/research/url-feedback).

Upload an ad, landing page or design, run a creative test and read what respondents notice first. Click the highlighted control in each step, or use Next.

The setup steps in this walkthrough are also written out as numbered steps above.

## Read the reaction

The result shows the image you tested beside the themes respondents raised, each with the share of respondents who mentioned it. Below the themes is a **Summary**.

Check the image shown in the result before you read the themes. Look at what respondents noticed, what they inferred and what they misunderstood, and compare each reaction with the image to see whether it refers to something visible.

These are AI-simulated reactions. They are not eye tracking, observed usability sessions or proof that an advertising claim is true. If a claim matters, check its evidence separately.

## Cost and next steps

A creative test covers one image. To compare alternatives, use a [preference test](https://imario.ai/docs/research/preference-test). To look into a misunderstanding, ask a follow-up in the same task and refer to the image explicitly.

Check the credit estimate before you click **Run**; a report is charged separately. See [Pricing & credits](https://imario.ai/docs/workspace/pricing).

If the upload fails, check the file type and size the picker accepts, wait for processing to finish, and upload again before you run the test. An image that failed to upload was not shown to respondents.
